The always-on social media world of likes and bots is the new battleground for votes during elections.


What appears to be true could be propaganda, which is designed to influence opinions and behaviour.


This is called

DIGITAL DISINFORMATION.


Digital disinformation is false, inaccurate, or misleading information designed, presented and promoted to intentionally cause public harm.


The Real411 provides citizens with a transparent process to report suspected disinformation during the run-up to the 2019 South African National and Provincial Elections.

Digital disinformation is false, inaccurate, or misleading information designed, presented and promoted to intentionally cause public harm.


Real411 is a digital platform where all citizens can report disinformation in the run up to the 2019 South African General Elections.


The Directorate for Electoral Offences, together with experts, will review each report and pass on a recommendation to the IEC.


The IEC will rule on acts of disinformation for appropriate action to be taken.

HERE’S HOW

1. Submit your complaint via the Real411 website.


2. The IEC’s Directorate for Electoral Offences and industry experts review the submission..


3. A recommendation is then sent to the Electoral Commissioners.


4. The Electoral Commissioners issue a ruling, which is published on the website.


5. Anyone who disagrees with the decision can approach the Electoral Court for relief
